Constantine In Sandman

The previous post linked some passages in Sandman nos 2 and 4 to:

Classical literature;
Alan Moore's Swamp Thing;
Mike Carey's Lucifer.

One other comic forms a tetralogy with the three already mentioned - John Constantine: Hellblazer. Sandman no 3 is effectively a Hellblazer issue inserted into Sandman - a meeting between Constantine and Morpheus from Constantine's pov. Gaiman had wanted to write a Constantine series and here he writes a single issue.

When a comic guest-stars an established character, the script writer is told, "Leave him as you found him," but here Gaiman makes a big change to Constantine as Morpheus ends his nightmares.
